me, asshole
Used to be another Audi S wagon parked here, now it’s a Saab. Can’t remember the last time I saw one of these. Finally got to stop and take a pic. Gorgeous.

It’s parked where the

used to be, in front of the blue wagon. I admire the dedication to minty Euro wagons of a certain era, and shudder at the assumed maintenance cost.

(Gimme a break, it was well after sunset and I was walking the best doggo in my world, who’s living with me for a week while his usual family’s on vacation)
Said doggo:

He was my neighbor for years, til the family moved and left me dogless. I’m so glad I get to take care of him this week
. He’s the goddamn best dog.

Visit my SAAB mechanic, Independent Auto Craft, Crystal Lake IL. I believe these are all for sale.

Ohhh a 9000 Aero! IIRC these had something like 250 hp/250 lb-ft of torque, which was quite a bit for the early 90s.
My first car was a ‘95 CS, which was the entry level but same body style. That had 170hp from the factory, but of course, being the early 2000's I chipped it and put on a blowoff valve so I could make fast and furious noises. It would spin the front left tire all day long in third gear after that!
Thank heavens for SAAB’s super unique bolt pattern or I’d have probably put some horrendous aftermarket alloys on the thing too. Ahh, youth :)
I ended up driving that car all the way through college and probably added about 100,000 miles ontop of the 135k my dad had done before me. It was dead reliable for me apart from burning up clutches. Probably the additional 50hp I added with that tune. I’d also unearth ed a host of electrical gremlins (see what I did there ?) b y changing out the seat belt buckle with one of a different model year when the origi nal part shattered on me as I tried to undo my seat belt one particularly frosty winter morning. T he junkyard part I bought didn’t have the same wiring connector so instead of going back and finding another one, I just said fk it and wired it up anyways. After that, things like headlights and wiper controls were suggestions, not really direct inputs anymore.
That, with the fact that the driver’s door would get frozen open on cold winter mornings, and the fact that it was leaking about as much oil as the Deepwater Horizon around the same time meant it was time to part ways. I still have a lot of great memories of that car. Seriously one of the best road trip machines I’ve ever driven, and the back hatch would swallow a picnic table if you asked it to.
Great cars!

Coincidence! I bought a 1998 convertible in May and was looking for someone to check it over for a trip. When I drove up I knew I had found the right place.

This is so dangerous lol, I'm somewhat in the market for a new DD but my budget is pretty limited so a saab that I can afford..... I probably can't really afford.

I’m guessing those are all pretty well sorted so they’ll have 90s Camry level reliability, right?

Well I paid $2800 for the 1998 convertible, ok condition but exterior cosmetic only so-so.
I put new front control arms (ball joints were bad), valve cover gasket, a new PCV nipple and its hoses (all pretty easy and cheap)
My local tire shop changed all the fluids and did alignment including new tie rod ends (about $500)
Independent did oil pan cleaning and gasket, fixed a leaking AC pipe, fixed the steering wheel clock spring and transmission mount damper ($1,400)
I feel like it’s pretty well sorted now and should go a long time without major issues (HA!)
